Description

For two decades, Histeria Nova has been implementing programs of decentralization, professionalization and promotion of contemporary dance art throughout the country. During the first decade of work in the Republic of Croatia (2000 – 2010), Marija Šćekić introduced and promoted somatic body techniques and physical stage movement in all amateur and professional dance circles and communities. The emphasis and importance on the dancer's awareness of their anatomy and biomechanics of human movement was proposed as a curriculum in the elementary school education.

A similar pioneering path was traversed during the second decade of work (2011-2021), introducing elements of aerial, vertical body movement into his work, thus promoting the importance of the emergence of vertical dance movement as a completely new artistic practice in the world. Although it can no longer be said that vertical dance is a new art form, it has not yet fully taken root in the Republic of Croatia.

Histeria Nova invests enormous personal, human and material efforts in order to promote safety as the most important factor of this art form. Gradually, in collaboration with foreign partners from Aeriosa Dance Society (Canada) and Yskynna Vertical Theatre (Great Britain), Marija Šćekić managed to form certain safe points for work in the field of vertical dance and the education of children and the new, upcoming generation of young dancers. Such points are located in the Paklenica National Park and the Mediterranean Coffee Garden in Karlobag. Are there echoes for such needs in the eastern region of Slavonia and Baranja?

More about the New Movement Biennale project and everything mentioned above will be discussed at the lecture.
The program is held with funds from Histeria Nova, Aeriosa Dance Society and the Dance Victoria Foundation.
