Film Baba's Tears was made as part of the Gates of Velebit project by Marija Šćekić. The main choreography for the film takes place in the hamlet of Ramići (Sklopine) – the birthplace of Josip Ramić where he spends his entire life with his recently deceased wife, Marija (1926-2015). The name "Baba's tears" was created as a combination of the word BABA – a "grandmother" (often used to refer to a specific peak, dulibe, pit, lake, etc.) and TEARS which symbolically represent the pain and difficulties of life on a rough mountain.
With the descent of Baba Mara and Did Jole from the mountain, the Paklenica National park is no longer the same when it comes to the true, sincere, modest and authentic traditional coexistence of man and the mountain. Life with dignity and joy is what comes first to one’s mind when remembering Jole and Mara Ramić. Upon their departure, this mountain remains a place of extraordinary natural beauty that preserves the memory of those who respected, understood and loved Velebit as much as Velebit loved, understood and respected them back. Their soul still lives within vast valleys, high rocks and green forests of South Velebit mountain.
